Choosing the right light bulb can turn out to be beneficial in many ways. It can decrease your electricity bills, save large amount of energy, durable usage etc. All the leading lighting manufacturers have started to produce energy saving lights like CFLs, LEDs and Halogen bulbs. Each of these energy efficient light bulbs has particular characteristics, advantages and drawbacks. Firstly CFL (Compact Flourescent Light), this light bulb can generate more light per watt of electricity than the traditional incandescent bulbs and consumes less energy. But they are made up of harmful chemicals called mercury, which are harmful for health and environment when exposed. LED lights are very efficient and last for a long time, but they are at the same time very expensive and some people find it difficult to afford it. Lastly, Halogen bulbs are specially designed to reduce the amount of tungsten that evaporates within the bulb making it more efficient than the incandescent bulbs.

Though these energy efficient bulbs are costly to purchase, they will be beneficial in the long term. While, purchasing any energy saving bulb, firstly look for Energy Star label in it because every time you are using an Energy Star qualified product you are saving energy, money, and greenhouse gas emissions. And also check with your photocell or timer manufacturer for compatibility because most of them are not designed to work with CFLs. Among these three kinds of bulbs, LEDs are the most effective one, they lasts up to 100 times than that of the incandescent bulbs. Finally, as we know that CFLs contain harmful chemicals we should recycle it once damaged.
